What Happens During the Mock Up Session?
A silicone mold (mock up) derived from the digital design model is placed over the teeth. With the dentist’s guidance, the patient can review the design in front of a mirror or through video recordings. After the review, the silicone mold is removed from the mouth.
When Is the Mock Up Not Applicable?
If one or several teeth are positioned far forward or outward from where they should be, it might not be feasible to conduct a mock up without altering the position of these teeth. Such teeth can prevent an accurate trial of the ideal design. However, this issue is discussed during the planning stage between the dentist and the patient.
What Happens If I Approve the Digital Smile Design?
The dentist explains in detail the necessary procedures for achieving the ideal smile design, including possible alternatives. Digital smile design often involves procedures such as orthodontics, dental implants, prosthetics, and gum treatments, either individually or in combination.
After agreeing on the treatment plan, the dentist schedules a new appointment and starts the procedures. All treatments are documented and planned according to the digital design.
Can I Request Changes to the Digital Smile Design?
The main purpose of the mock up session is for the patient to approve the smile design, to express any concerns, and to request adjustments as needed. Minor changes, such as increasing or decreasing the length of a single tooth, can be made during the same session. However, more significant changes may require a new appointment.
Will the Final Result Match the Smile Shown in the Digital Smile Design?
The material used during the mock up session is designed for temporary use and lacks the durability and aesthetics of the final product. However, the teeth prepared during the treatment process are produced under lab conditions using durable materials and special techniques to ensure a long-lasting and aesthetically pleasing result.
